FUN TIME AND FIREWORKS

The Party Fun Time Band, which according to their instagram likes to “party and have a fun time” will be playing one of their last shows at Tantra, 217 W Hopkins Street, this Friday from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Go get a beer and have, I hate to say it again but, a fun time. Saturday from 9 to 9:30 p.m., if you’re not over explosions, there will be an Independence Day Fireworks Show at Roughhouse Brewing, 680 Oakwood Loop, which the website touts as the brewery's biggest community event of the year. I heard this event gets pretty crowded, so the brewery is asking that you RSVP at this link roughhousebrewing.com/event-details/independenceday- fireworks-show. Their craft beer is great and there is an awesome view of the Texas Hill Country. Get there early and bring a chair just in case.

SHOWING OFF SAN MARCOS

We’ll have a rare treat this weekend as my brother and his wife will be visiting us to attend a concert in Austin Friday night. They live in East Texas in a town with great Cajun and seafood, but beyond that, their options are less diverse. My goal: To treat them to a different, local place each day they’re here. We will start with North Street, because Indian-Mexican fusion is not something you find every day. Please: You had me at curry queso. The next stop in our culinary adventure will be brunch in Blue Dahlia’s secret garden, followed by Rhea’s Ice Cream, because where else can you get a scoop of raspberry goat cheese? On Sunday, we’ll wrap it up at Garcia’s — forever our family’s favorite. It’s always Mom’s No. 2 for me (hands down, best crispy taco). My brother says their Chile Relleno is the relleno against which all others are judged, and all are found wanting. Happy eating, y’all!

Smoked foods are wildly popular. The unique flavor that smoking imparts to anything from beef to poultry to seafood to vegetables is impossible to replicate with other cooking methods, which perhaps contributes to its popularity.

Albert and Casey Luna believe tea doesn’t get a fair shake. In a world full of coffeehouses and coffee drinkers, tea gets woefully overlooked, so the Lunas decided it was time to balance the scales.
