A 3-0 sweep of Houston Baptist Saturday evening earned the Bobcats a second place finish in the annual Creed & Crests Classic.

The Bobcats defeated the Huskies (25-18, 27-25, 25-22) and improved to 7-3 on the season. Senior middle blocker Jaliyah Bolden and junior middle blocker Madison Daigle led the team with 10 kills each. Freshman setter Brooke Johnson recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 assists and 17 digs.

As a whole, the defense was efficient with four Bobcats finishing the night in double-figures. Sophomore outside hitters Megan Porter (16), Amy Pflughaupt (11) and sophomore libero Micah Dinwiddie (11) were the team leaders in digs.

Texas State jumped out to an early first-set lead with an 11-3 advantage. The Huskies fought back to an even 16-16 score before the Bobcats ran away with the lead. Houston Baptist controlled the end of the second set and found themselves within a point of taking the set, 24-23. The Bobcats went on a late 4-2 run and stole the set to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set went back and forth as neither side led by more than three points. Houston Baptist was in control with a 21-19 lead but Texas State finished the match by taking six of the last seven points.

The Bobcats finished the evening with 43 kills, a .163 hitting percentage, 40 assists, 65 digs and seven blocks. A 3-1 record for the weekend earned Texas State a second place finish with Daigle and Porter both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Bobcats are set to visit Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Nacogdoches.
