Daigle named conference Defensive Player of the Week

Bobcat junior middle blocker Madison Daigle earned the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday. 

Daigle recorded 34 blocks and nine digs during five matches last week. On offense, she had 59 kills, seven aces and a .312 hitting percentage. She helped lead the Bobcats to a 4-1 record last week. The Bobcats won two five-set matches against Sam Houston State and UTSA. Texas State swept UMass Lowell and Houston Baptist  on Saturday. 

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native tallied her first career double-double with career highs in kills and blocks with 16 and 10, respectively, against the Roadrunners on Thursday during the Bobcats’ home opener. Daigle amassed 15 kills and nine blocks in Texas State’s win over Sam Houston State. She had eight digs and a career-high three aces against UMass Lowell. 

Daigle is second in the Sun Belt in blocks with 41 this season. 

This week’s award is the first defensive honor for Daigle and her third overall. She was twice named conference Freshman of the Week in 2015. 

She is the fourth Bobcat to earn the conference’s weekly defensive honor since 2013. 

Coastal Carolina senior outside hitter Leah Hardeman was named Offensive Player of the Week, Appalachian State senior Ashlyn Brown earned Setter of the Week and Louisiana outside hitter Hali Wisnoskie received Freshman of the Week honors.
