Rattlers close 7-on-7 season with wins over Lehman, Seguin
SAN MARCOS FOOTBALL : 7-ON-7
San Marcos concluded its 7-on-7 campaign on Wednesday with two narrow wins inside San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium.
The evening began with a 38-32 win over Kyle Lehman after both schools battled down to the last possession. The final game of the three-week season ended with a defensive battle in which the Rattlers topped Seguin 19-18.
“We grew as a team during this 7-on-7 run,” rising sophomore safety Kannon Webb said. “Our chemistry continued to get better and better between the linebackers and the corners, the corners and the safeties. We all just grew as a unit. The offense started clicking more and more as the games went on.”
Closing the season with two wins put San Marcos at 4-2 against the field. Webb played a significant role in Wednesday’s wins with three interceptions on the evening.
“Well T-Soto (Therrance Soto) has helped me out a lot I appreciate him,” Webb said. “Coach Rod (Gilbert Rodriguez), he’s helped me out a lot. You just have to continue to grow and stay humbled as you continue to progress.”
Now that the 7-on-7 season is over, the Rattlers will continue working in the weight room throughout the summer. San Marcos is making its way into a new district this upcoming season and will be opening the year against long-time rival Buda Hays.
“The motto right now is ‘outwork yesterday’,” Webb said. “We’re looking to get better and better everyday. Next year will be exciting, it’s going to be fun to watch.”
