Texas State celebrated senior day with an 8-6 win over Louisiana on Sunday inside Bobcat Ballpark.

The Bobcats (25-25-1, 13-14 Sun Belt) claimed their first series win over the Ragin’ Cajuns (29-23, 15-12) since 2004. Sunday’s victory also clinches a berth in the Sun Belt conference championship tournament on May 22-27 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Bobcats are currently in seventh place in the conference and are 1.5 games out of a top-six spot.

Senior shortstop Luke Sherely shined in his final home game as a Bobcat.

Sherley went 3-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored, and he hit his fifth home run of the season. Sherley also made his first appearance on the mound since high school. He entered the game in the top of the ninth and struck out two batters to record the save.

Louisiana jumped out to quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Ragin’ Cajuns held a 5-1 advantage, but Texas State responded with three runs in the bottom of the second.

The Bobcats used a solo homer by senior Dylan Paul, and a two-run home run from Sherley to cut the Ragin’ Cajun lead down to 5-4.

Texas State took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning and didn’t relinquish it. The Bobcats held on for the 8-6 victory.

Texas State returns to action on Tuesday against  No. 17 Texas (33-18, 14-7 Big 12) at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin at 6:30 p.m.
